Digital Communications Manager
This job description provides a general guideline to the most common duties, responsibilities, and minimum requirements for this position. It is not all inclusive and the actual position may vary as circumstances indicate or as determined by the organization. Working hours are primarily normal business hours, although the Digital Communications Manager will need to work varied hours to include nights and weekends, with the position requiring additional travel as business needs dictate. 

Summary of Position:
The Digital Communications Manager is charged with the primary responsibility for managing and creating digital-related projects, particularly related to marketing, communications, membership and the distribution of resources. The manager works closely with program directors to coordinate digital projects. S/he should be flexible, a good multi-tasker, and a quick study. We’re a small staff, and each person wears many hats which means that the manager should be versatile in their capabilities; to include having a marketing focus with the ability to produce high quality communications content. The manager should be comfortable managing multiple projects at once, with tight deadlines, and lending support to other projects where needed. 

Job responsibilities include:

  • Develop digital media campaigns for social media, lead-generation, video, images and the digital library of best practices and resources
  • Coordinate the creation of digital content
  • Initiate and manage media, marketing and content-sharing partnerships
  • Manage membership and develop member benefits/communications
  • Assist with strategy and implementation of website redesign (partnering with outside design and development)
  • Liaise with program teams to ensure brand consistency
  • Develop monthly, quarterly and annual reports to communicate growth of digital communication efforts
  • Participate in and contribute to various strategy and creative sessions


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably with major study in new and interactive media, journalism, web design, marketing, or other web-intensive discipline.
  • Minimum three years of web experience required
  • 3-5 years of digital marketing experience desired
  • Mac and/or PC literate
  • Google AdWords certification preferred, but not required
  • Video editing capabilities a plus, but not required

Essential Skills/Knowledge: 

  • Expertise in all major business software applications (Microsoft Office etc.)
    Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat)
  • Basic knowledge and capabilities with digital design programs (HTML & CSS, Flash, Silverlight, etc.)
  • Proficient with Google Analytics, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendars
  • Proficient with online content management systems and Web site platforms
  • Thorough understanding of digital design principles and guidelines
  • Deep understanding of optimal online user experiences
  • Experience using social media as a marketing tool
  • Ability to design and package editorial content for the Web
  • Familiar with the technical and programming aspects of website development
  • Experience with website development life cycles and project management methodologies
  • Outstanding command of the English language, outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Broad fundamental marketing knowledge
  • Significant communication skills in written and verbal formats; showcases clear and concise manner.  
  • good presentation skills
  • Can articulate the Organizations goal behind the creation of a piece or series of content
  • Fluency in web analytics tools, social media marketing tools, and leading social media platforms
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently; a self-initiator, versatile and assumes risk with responsibility
