Oakhurst Elementary School

Read and discuss The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace (2006, Marshall Cavendish Childrens Books). Students perform an act of kindness, draw a picture and write a sentence about that act and add their squares to a class quilt.

Students will perform an act of kindness, then draw a picture and write a sentence about that act for the class quilt.

Read and discuss The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Discuss things the students do to show kindness. The students perform an act of kindness, draw a picture and write a sentence about that act. I used this activity as part of their weekly homework so the quilt included acts of kindness performed at home, school or in the community. When the students returned their squares, the students shared what they had done with the class and we added their squares to the class quilt. We hung the quilt in the hall outside of our classroom. This activity encouraged the students to focus on being kind and respectful to each other and contributed to a positive atmosphere in our classroom.
