Christian Ott Elementary SchoolChristian Ott Elementary shines with tradition. Founded in 1885, Christian Ott is one of 20 elementary schools in the Independence School District and proud home of 430 PreK-5 students. Our students, teachers, and families have partnered to create a school culture where the individual strengths and talents of every student are fostered and celebrated. Students are challenged and empowered to set goals, demonstrate their personal best, and achieve at high levels. In 2007, we were honored as a Missouri Gold Star School for improving student achievement. Our commitment to character was re-energized in 2009 as we embraced CHARACTERplus in our school and district. Our school leadership team consisting of the principal, counselor, teachers, and parents participated in ongoing training. Monthly character traits now form the cornerstone of our character curriculum, guiding students, as our vision states, to be “kind, caring, and successful learners” as we teach, internalize and demonstrate core values. In 2013 we were recognized as a State School of Character for our support and implementation of character education. Positive and caring role models, high expectations, our core curriculum, service learning opportunities, character-based programs and activities, student recognition, an emphasis on positive choices, and a supportive learning community symbolize our goal to lead lives of exemplary character and to make our school, as Ott’s vision statement reads, “the best it can be.”
