Forder Elementary School
St. Louis, Missouri
2015 National School of Character

Forder Elementary SchoolDuring the summer months of 2009, Forder’s dedicated Character Education Goal Team worked tirelessly to establish a strong foundation of CharacterED for our students before they would return to school in mid-August. The work was extensive but the rewards were immense and within a short amount of time, Forder Elementary School had several strategies in place to support a positive climate in our school for our students and staff. Although Forder Elementary School is new to embedding CharacterED into our daily routines, we have had several experiences in the recent past where we have been recognized for our accomplishments within CharacterED. We are proud to be a recipient of seven Promising Practice awards and are excited with the possibility of making it seven this school year. In addition, we have several other practices in place to develop the caring environment where students can feel and be successful. Forder Elementary School has a very diverse population with over 15 different nationalities represented, and over 50% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch. However, developing quality character traits is a primary focus for our staff for children of all backgrounds, cultural upbringings or family situations. We believe a strong partnership between teachers, parents and the community will provide a caring, nurturing environment where all students can grow academically, socially and emotionally while becoming life-long learners.
