Pennell Elementary School
Aston, Pennsylvania
2015 National School of Character

Pennell Elementary SchoolPennell Elementary serves 426 students in the suburban area of Aston, PA. Our relatively small school district is commonly described as a hard-working, blue collar community that has a long history of strong academic achievement, earning AYP for 9 consecutive years. Not uncommon in today’s educational landscape, our challenges include budgetary restraints, a lack of population diversity, and state testing accountability. We began our character education initiative in 2006 with the adoption of the Olweus Anti-Bullying program. Since 2006, Pennell has added many components to our robust positive behavioral support program, including a Core Values Character Education program. Our goals continue to be the same every year; to support: a community that is united in our mission of social and academic achievement, a culture where tolerance and acceptance of one another is the expectation, and an environment where our values are integrated and recognized with everything we do. Pennell Elementary is fortunate to have a very strong and dedicated staff and highly ambitious PTO. Our parent and staff committee works on all of our character education initiatives, both student and staff related. From newsletter information, to morning announcements and class meetings, Core Essentials has been a great asset. Pennell was recognized in 2013 as a PA State School of Character.
