Pryor High School
Pryor, Oklahoma
2015 National School of Character

Pryor High SchoolPryor High School has been implementing our character education journey since 2009. Over the past year and a half it has taken root and flourished. Our students have gone from complacent and apathetic to taking responsibility for their actions and leading everything. Pryor High School has an attitude of empathy. Students now care about other students as well as other people. One by one staff are beginning to let go of the reigns and let the students, with staff guidance, lead, care and learn. The character journey has created this environment of ambitious and caring students. There are numerous activities in which our students are doing so many helpful and educational projects. In fact, there are so many that we, the staff, cannot even keep up with showcasing all of them. The newspapers in town have done an incredible job to help support these initiatives. The Pryor Daily Times™ staff writer recently said, “The Pryor Public School system is the lifeblood of the community. Students of Pryor schools raise the bar in education, community involvement, health and innovation, inspiring the citizens around them to rise to the occasion. In Pryor, students do not wait to ‘be the future,’ they are making their mark now. PPS is staffed with proactive, innovative and passionate students and staff and the community is proud to have them.” The school system is the hub for character education. This has created a collaboration between school and community.
