Wolcott Street School
Le Roy, New York
2015 National School of Character

Wolcott Street School Character Education is at the forefront of the Wolcott Street School and has been for the last 16 years. On a monthly basis the program is refined in order to create an increase in character education opportunities for our students. Since our last application in which we were recognized as a “New York State School of Character” we have identified 33 new initiatives and activities to help our students and our school grow our Character Education Program.  We continue to use Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education to monitor our program and identify areas of success and areas that need improvement across our 190,000 square foot campus.  The school culture at Wolcott Street School and in the Le Roy community is enhanced by continued analysis of our progress as we work toward building strong moral character into the hearts and minds of our students. At the Wolcott Street School, we set high academic standards, but we also understand the importance of developing students to become productive, well-rounded citizens.  We strive to provide a learning environment that is tolerant of individual differences and supports all students in achieving their individual goals.  This is evidenced in our daily utilization of the Olweus Bullying prevention program and Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. One of our district’s goals for the 2014-15 school year is to lead and support the development of well-rounded students who will contribute to all aspects of our community once they graduate.
