Imagine Harrisburg Pike Community School
2015 Promising Practice

Driving Together for a Caring Community
The entire school banded together, giving back to our families for the holidays by collecting food items and monetary donations. At Imagine Harrisburg Pike, we focus on fostering an environment that encourages our students, parents and staff to be good citizens within our school and community. The Holiday Food Drive was a great way to demonstrate the importance of citizenship and humanity to the students, both in our school and Columbus as a whole. Our parents and students donated over 1,000 items, which had a direct positive effect on their fellow classmates who needed a helping hand during the holidays. We also successfully recruited several fraternities and sororities from Ohio State University, as well as Kroger Grocery Store, to assist in the collection of food items and donations. With the donations, our students and staff were able to create “The Hornet Store” specifically for 32 of our families in need to come food shopping for the holidays. Also, 18 families were given complete Thanksgiving Meals with turkeys, traditional sides, dessert and a gallon of milk. Our students donated remaining food items to Helping Hands who provide food assistance to families in Columbus.
