DECA Needy Family Food Drive
2010 was the 28th year for the Belleville East DECA Needy Family Food Drive. DECA, the student organization for marketing education, involves the entire campus of the school by collecting canned goods, personal care items such as diapers, and money to fulfill the variety of needed articles. These goods are used to assemble Thanksgiving baskets for economically struggling families in the district, which are suggested by principals in the surrounding grade school districts. Each year, the number of families assisted has grown and more students and faculty have become involved. In recent years, there has been enough food for the chosen families and the extra canned goods have been distributed to local food pantries. Each year, the food drive collects more food, becomes better organized, and helps develop maturing students into capable leaders.
