Peace, Awareness, Witness, Service Pledge
St. Aloysius Academy is an all-male, private Catholic school in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1895, traditions run very long and deep at the Academy. However, a new tradition began in the year 2000 as part of Middle States Association Reaccreditation process. St. Aloysius Academy students, faculty and staff embraced the Peace, Awareness, Witness, Service (PAWS) initiative as a reflection of the Mission of the Academy. A PAWS flag is raised under the American flag daily. Students are encouraged to be peaceful, to be aware of others locally and globally, to give witness to their faith, and to serve others. The cornerstone of the program is the PAWS Pledge which the entire Academy community recites together as the day begins face-to-face in Katharine Drexel Hall. This daily promise to each other has been institutionalized and is a springboard for personal action/reaction, as well as group formative discussions. From five-year olds to 14-year olds, this pledge represents the backbone of what is expected of each member of the St. Aloysius Academy community.
