Make-A-Change Club at Macopin + Operation Thank You
"Operation Thank You" began as a teacher-designed intiative for supporting our troops. Since 2003, it has grown into a comprehansive endeavor that promotes core character values and places them in action. During student advisory (curricular component of this practice), students brainstorm and create a list of supplies and items that would be helpful for soldiers around the holidays. Students also write cards, messages and letters to soldiers thanking them for their service and add them to each box of supplies that are shipped. The Macopin Make-A-Change Club (extra-curricular component) helps with boxing the items and delivering them to the post office. This event occurs between the months of November and December and has grown to be so successful, that it has been initiated in the spring each year as well. Countless letters have come back to Macopin from soldiers thanking our students for their selfless, caring effort in supporting the troops. Finally, there is also a "Four-Legged Soldier" initiative that compliments "Operation Thank You" in honor of the canines that assist our uniformed soldiers overseas.
