Parent University- A Free Parent Education Program
"Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." ~Vince Lombardi Southwood Elementary School, a 2014 recipient of the State School of Character Award, has a commitment to CE that is palpable within our school as well as within our district. With CE as the cornerstone of both our school and our district, students and staff members district-wide learn and practice Trustworthiness, Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, Respect and Responsibility, with an emphasis placed on continuing this learning in our community. Our families play an integral role in our efforts, ensuring the consistency necessary for effective lifelong character development. Parent University, our free parent education program, is one of the many services provided by OBPS which promote academic excellence and positive character development. As educators and as a community, we have a responsibility to not only mentor our children academically, but to nurture them into becoming caring, empathic, responsible and contributing members of the local and global communities. Parent University truly exemplifies our commitment to this mission.
