Laws of Life Essay Contest

The Laws of Life essay contest encourages elementary, middle, and high school students to reflect and write about a core value that means the most to them – and why.

Made possible by a grant from The School for Ethical Education.

This essay contest is open to 4th-12th grade students worldwide. Essays should be 250-500 words and answer the prompt, “What core value means the most to you and why?”

We are honored to share with you below the 2026 Laws of Life “Most Compelling” and “Exemplary” Essays.

Students worldwide have shared with us a core value or character strength that is important to them, and why. We hope you will click and read several of the essays that focus on a core value that resonates with you. We also want to take this opportunity to thank our volunteer judges who embraced the challenge to read, evaluate, and select the most compelling and exemplary essays.  They have truly invested themselves in the work of these students.

Finally, congratulations to each student who submitted a Law of Life essay. May this opportunity to reflect on the impactful moments in your life continue to help you to become your best self.
