PAW-SOME Readers

Pierce Elementary School

The goal of the lesson is to give the students a reading incentive during March – Reading Month. Additionally, the students will discuss the core values with their families making the values more widely known.

Students will identify a Core Value (Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, and Cooperation) in a self-selected book.
Introduce the students to the activity and send a note home.
Students are assigned a day and time that they will share with the class the PAW-SOME book they read.
Post the hallway sign after a student presents their PAW-SOME book.
Were the students able to correctly identify a core value from the book?
This lesson is differentiated by the students having the ability to self-select a book at their reading level. Students who may read slower can be one of the last students to present their PAW-SOME book.

Extension writing assignment: Choose a character and explain what core values they need to improve upon.
