BE THE LEADING CREATOR OF CONTENT THAT ELEVATES CHARACTER

Character.org aims to redefine the narrative around character development by producing and disseminating content that is not only engaging but also transformative. Through storytelling, educational programs, and digital campaigns, we plan to illuminate the importance of virtues such as integrity, empathy, responsibility, and resilience in today's society. Mainly, we want to elevate the importance of character in America to build a better country, community, and life. We want character to become "cool."

Character Education Development:

Develop a comprehensive, age-appropriate online workshop for after-school programs that integrates character education into everyday life. The workshop should be supported by interactive tools and resources for educators and students. Most importantly, it should empower young people to be part of the change they want to see in the world.

LAUNCH THE JOHN WINTHROP WRIGHT CENTER FOR ETHICS & INTEGRITY

The John Winthrop Wright Center for Ethics & Integrity plans to launch a pivotal initiative to redefine America's discussion on character and values, focusing on an annual report titled "The Cost of Bad Character on American Society." This report aims to examine the wide-ranging impacts of ethical shortcomings and foster nationwide discourse on the significance of integrity. The initiative will also introduce the American Values Assessment to annually track the country's ethical development.

In addition, the Center will produce publications and a podcast dedicated to promoting ethical leadership and character education, targeting early childhood and leveraging service-learning to cultivate leadership and values in students. These efforts strive to emphasize character's role in building a just society and equip future generations with the tools for ethical leadership, integrating character education into America’s societal, educational, and policy frameworks.

Ethics in Leadership Podcast Series:

Host a series of high-profile interviews with renowned leaders and academics, aiming to explore the role of ethics in various sectors including business, education, politics, and technology. Grow this audience to create a much-needed voice for ethics and integrity in the public space.

PARTNER WITH FUNDERS TO INCUBATE NEW INITIATIVES

In order to drive systemic change, Character.org seeks to collaborate with visionary funders to incubate new initiatives that address critical gaps in character education and ethical leadership. Through our strategic partnerships, we aim to catalyze innovation and scale impact by working on a national level. We also seek funders to intiate policy changes by focusing on political advocacy, we aim to secure commitments from decision-makers to integrate character-building principles into educational systems, corporate governance, and public policy. Lastly, we seek funders to innovate new character intiatives that can make a significant impact while supporting the next generation of character thought leaders. By supporting these strategic goals and action ideas, funders have the opportunity to be at the forefront of a national movement towards a more ethical, integrated, and character-driven society.

Character Education Policy Initiative:

Launch an initiative aimed at influencing educational policy at the state and federal levels to incorporate character education into the core curriculum. This will involve collaboration with educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and stakeholders to draft, propose, and enact legislation that supports comprehensive character education programs.

Commitment

Parents need to commit to model and reinforce to their children the core values and character strengths that mean the most to them. They also need to be creative and offer meaningful experiences that illuminate how important these character strengths are to the family’s core values.

Conversations

We know “We need to talk” freaks kids out, but too often parents avoid having conversations about character, especially as children get older. While it may not be easy to talk sometimes, we know from the research that parents who avoid talking to their children about serious matters quickly lose trust and connection.

Celebration

Parents need to find ways for their children to be active participants in their own character growth. Optimal character development occurs when children begin to make self-motivated commitments to consistently practice a core value (e.g. “I want to be the kind of person who is always honest and shows up on time.”) Parents need to celebrate these moments to shape and define individual character.
